Ever wonder what the devil is in sausages? I did/ still do. From the meat to the ingredient listed as ‘spices’ – the mystery in sausages is just a little too mysterious. That’s why it took me so long to try sausages when I started eating meat again.
The first sausages I ate after becoming a meat eater were apple sage sausages from The Sausage Man Never Sleeps. They were so good I kinda became a secret fangirl, and then made my fangirl status public on Instagram, and then finally permanent when I posted the Cowgirl Lunch Recipe featuring Sausage Man Chorizo. Pretty much if you come to Berlin, you need to try his chorizo!
Allergy Friendly Sausages in Berlin
Enough gushing and now to the part where I tell you how being a fangirl pays off because you get your very own sausage! Well in a way… The Sausage Man Never Sleeps put out a call to get your very own sausage created as a Wurst der Woche. All you had to do was suggest a flavour combo. Since plums were in season, I thought why not in a sausage!
The plum idea got an honourable mention and voila a sausage was made! What’s super cool about this particular sausage is the emphasis put on making it 100% allergy safe. The sausage man has an allergy to mustard, and one of his team is celiac, so it was only natural to highlight how allergy aware they are.
I got to join the Sausage Man Never Sleeps, aka Simon, during the Allergy Girl Eats Wurst production. I learnt more about the meat, the steps involved, tried filling a sausage (emphasis on tried), and even ate raw sausage meat! No way would I have believed I would be eating uncooked sausage filling at 8 in the morning three years ago!

If you are ever in Berlin and looking for a darn good sausage, hit up The Sausage Man Never Sleeps. Did I mention he also does a gluten-free black pudding? Rock on allergy-friendly sausages!
