Deconstructed Apple Sausage was our go to breakfast during Whole30. It’s top 8 free and goes with pretty much everything!
During Whole30 all I wanted was a sweet breakfast and now that it’s over the feeling has reversed. After living off of mostly cereal and coconut yogurt during our Australia travels, I’ve been craving a good old Whole30 brekkie. Life post-Whole30 and I’ve officially become a savoury breakfast person! I never thought that would ever happen.
To celebrate savoury breakfasts, I’m sharing the recipe for one of our go-to breakfast foods during the reset: deconstructed apple sausage!
Oh la la, Deconstructed Apple Sausage
Deconstructed apple sausage is one of those “fancy restaurant names” because all you’re really doing is sautéing ground meat with apples. It could be called ground meat with apples, but that doesn’t sound very nice not to mention kind of unappetising.
This ‘sausage’ is a mix of savory from the onions and a little sweet from the apples, raisins, and cinnamon. To make it, I use ground pork or a combination of beef and pork. However, I bet this would be perfect with ground turkey or chicken, but I can’t find either in Berlin, so I can’t tell you for sure (in my mind it is delicious with ground turkey).
Oh and did I mention deconstructed apple sausage pairs with so much. During Whole30 I would have it with an avocado, or a fried egg, or with more applesauce, or with hash browns, or as a part of sweet potato hash, or in potato soup. What you eat it with is only limited by your imagination!
