You may say I come from a very atopic family. Allergies, intolerances, asthma, and eczema are all found on both sides of my family tree. So when the company LactoJoy contacted me about trying out their product, I knew I could find someone to be my guinea pig! LactoJoy is putting a hip spin on the regular old lactose intolerance pill. They are a young, dynamic group of people from Germany who want to drink their lattes without the stress an intolerance can create.
What and who is LactoJoy?
LactoJoy is one of the first products I am outright reviewing on Allergy Girl Eats. And I must say I am pretty stoked. Why I said yes to trying out their product was what they had written in their about us section:
“How can I avoid attracting unwanted and awkward attention when making special requests? Questions on top of questions that give rise to uneasiness in the run up to such occasions. Are such uncertainties unavoidable?”
Well, I’d be darned that sounds like worries people with food allergies also have to deal with. Luckily for people with lactose intolerance, there is a solution for those times where you want to have a slice of cheese cake or try your friends crazy new cream-cheese-milkshake-thingamabob. So I was more than happy to share that solution, since I would definitely want to know about it if I had lactose intolerance.
I was lucky enough to outgrow my milk intolerance when I was a kid and have been greedily drinking lots of milk since. This means I wasn’t able to test LactoJoy. The next best person to do it? My dad! He loves cheese and will suffer through the unpleasantness of his intolerance just because he seriously loves the stuff so much.
You can sum up his cheese experience as follows:
When he was about to try LactoJoy, he, like all responsible allergy people do, went to read the ingredients. Low and behold LactoJoy contains potato starch, and if you can believe it he is allergic to potato.
What’s a gal to do? Like I said, I have a family full of allergies and intolerances. This means I asked my grandma if she wouldn’t mind helping me out. She too is lactose intolerant and was more than happy to give it a try. Bless grandmas, eh! We prepared a super dairy-filled meal starting with a cheese platter, moving on to chicken parmesan, and ending with frozen peach cheesecake.
My grandma is a little lady and decided to take half of a pill before the milk madness commenced. The verdict! Two big thumbs up. Not only did my grandma come away from the meal problem free, she was also very excited to be the owner of a cute LactoJoy tin full of pills. Lactase pills aren’t anything new to my grandma since she has bought them in the past. She chooses to avoid dairy outright instead buying lactase pills because of the embarrassing names like Beano or the bulky packaging. LactoJoy had solved this problem with their sleek black tin that takes up barely any space in your purse or pocket. Perfect for her next ladies lunch!
I’m proud to report that LactoJoy has the grandma seal of approval!
