Allergy Girl Eats just added a new voice and her name is Kaitlin!
Nice to meet you! My name is Kaitlin – I am a twenty something young professional, food lover, and also allergy girl! I was recently diagnosed with an anaphylactic food allergy to soy – only about one year ago! I was eating a normal dinner with my family when I suddenly couldn’t breathe, was rushed to the ER, and lo and behold my allergy journey began. While Kortney has dealt with allergies her entire life, I’ve been thrown into this new world as a young adult, and it has been one heck of a learning curve.
Up until a few months ago, I was barely floating above water, trying to navigate an anaphylactic allergy by myself and live a normal life at the same time. I actually had NO CLUE what I was doing. Truthfully, I was stressed, frustrated, anxious, maybe a bit depressed. My world was suddenly closed off, or so I thought.
But then, I came across Kortney’s blog – where she unpacked all the topics I was thinking about and stressing over, and life truly seemed easier! It turned out, there was a community of people who all felt my pain, and had each other’s backs!
This discovery inspired me to share my own allergy girl story with you on the Allergy Girl Eats blog. Whether it’s my life hacks for navigating everyday situations from dating to work, to seeing the positives of living with allergies (hello more energy, healthy diet!), to silly allergy pet peeves I have acquired (like people thinking I am allergic to gluten, when I tell them I am allergic to soy…they are not the same haha 😉 ). I can’t wait to share it all with you!
Above all, I know from experience that following someone else’s allergy journey can really help put things in perspective. If you are struggling, frustrated, confused or even just excited to hear more advice, keep reading Allergy Girl Eats and stay tuned for my first blog post. If a small, blonde twenty something can get through life with an anaphylactic soy allergy (which by the way, is in so many foods in North America!), I’m pretty sure you can get through just about anything! Until my first post, remember that, and happy allergy girl eating ☺
